Endo Quick Tip: The Power of an Occlusal Reduction
January 10, 2020
Hi everyone, I wanted to go over one of my favorite tools because this guy really helps me make my root canal so much more efficient.
So this is my M4 handpiece — it goes on to my slow speed attachment and it turns my hand file into a rotary file. It’s really quite magical.
It will take it and it’ll start making it go into a reciprocating motion, and then I can peck away at my canal. This is really helpful in those calcified canals because it gets me to the apex so much
faster, so it really helps me prevent my hand fatigue, but also it decreases my chair time. So I put a little RC prep the tip of this and I peck away. I may have to change out that hand file a few times, but it really gets me going a lot faster.
So then I can switch to my rotary, and it keeps things super safe for me so that I don’t separate my rotary files. So try your M4 handpiece! Kavo Kerr is who makes this and it it’s really a no-brainer. If you’re doing a ton of endo and you really want a really helpful tool that gives you a really good return on your investment, the M4 is the way to go.

Does using k file in k400 has the probability of causing transportation and zipping of the root canal ….and can we use this in case of curved roots ….thank you mam
Great video Sonia! Do you use this before or after you’ve reached working length?
Thank you mam I was thought about m4 handpiece some days back but I was not sure if it will be helpful, thank you for guiding mam
You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure. – Sonia
I use it before, during and after. There is no strict protocol here, just whatever makes your life easier and your root canals faster. Good luck! – Sonia
Of course, anything can transport a canal. Your hand files and rotary files can too, so make sure that you use anything with care and caution. – Sonia
I have been using this for years. What setting seems to be the best for the M4 handpiece?
Great question! I actually pop it on my slow speed coupler and run it (i.e., no real setting). I hope that helps you, Ketan. -Sonia
What’s the smallest file you will use an m4 with? I just recently purchased one. Haven’t used it yet.
Hi Pat, I use 6C files in my M4 all the time. Typically I use 6-10s. Hope this helps! -Sonia
Hi doc, will my rotary files fit in this handpiece?
Mo,
This handpiece is for your hand files. It makes them into a rotary.
